Yoga is essentially a spiritual discipline based on an extremely subtle science, which focuses on bringing harmony between mind and body. It is an art and science of healthy living. The word 'Yoga' is derived from the Sanskrit root 'Yuj', meaning 'to join' or 'to yoke' or 'to unite'. As per Yogic scriptures the practice of Yoga leads to the union of individual consciousness with that of the Universal Consciousness, indicating a perfect harmony between the mind and body, Man & Nature. According to modern scientists, everything in the universe is just a manifestation of the same quantum firmament. One who experiences this oneness of existence is said to be in yoga, and is termed as a yogi, having attained to a state of freedom referred to as mukti, nirvana or moksha. Thus the aim of Yoga is Self-realization, to overcome all kinds of sufferings leading to 'the state of liberation' (Moksha) or 'freedom' (Kaivalya). Living with freedom in all walks of life, health and harmony shall be the main objectives of Yoga practice. "Yoga" also refers to an inner science comprising of a variety of methods through which human beings can realise this union and achieve mastery over their destiny.Yoga, being widely considered as an 'immortal cultural outcome' of Indus Saraswati Valley civilisation - dating back to 2700 B.C., has proved itself catering to both material and spiritual upliftment of humanity. Basic humane values are the very identity of Yoga Sadhana.
HATHA YOGI - If an individual engages in Hatha Yoga, they are considered a Hath Yogi. The literal translation of 'hath' is 'by force.' This form of yoga comprises a series of postures that challenge both the body and mind to reach greater heights. Moreover, it has been suggested that 'ha' represents the 'sun,' while 'tha' symbolizes the 'moon.' Therefore, Hatha Yoga serves to harmonize our solar and lunar aspects, which correspond to our masculine and feminine qualities, respectively.
SANKHYA YOGI - This category of yogi engages in the pursuit of knowledge. The Sankhya Yogi endeavors to comprehend wisdom and seeks to achieve the utmost level of understanding. Sankhya yogis are also referred to by three additional titles - Gyaan Yogi, Karam Sanyasi, and Samatav Budhi Yogi. The Sankhya yogi's objective is to relinquish his or her Ego and recognizes the presence of the Supreme Lord or the Divine that pervades all existence.
KARMA YOGI - The individual who practices selfless service is referred to as a Karma Yogi. These practitioners hold the belief that all actions are performed for the Supreme Lord, rather than for personal gain. They do not anticipate or accept any rewards for their altruistic actions, dedicating their lives to serving others. They are also recognized as Nishkaam Karma Yogis.
RAJA YOGI - The Raja Yogi practises Ashtanga Yoga and meditation. Raja means the King, hence Raja Yogis are those who practice what is seen as the king of Yoga practices, with the ultimate aim of self-realisation.
SIDDHA YOGI - Siddha Yogis are those who have been practising Yoga for quite some time, and have also achieved Samadhi. They can practise Samprajnata Samadhi, during which they would still be aware of their surroundings. Siddha Yogis aim to attain Vi-vek Khayati first, where they realise the distinction between the Atma Tatva (Soul element) and nature (Prakriti). Afterwards, they achieve Asamprajnata Samadhi where they are unaware of their surroundings and can feel the universe.
